Many people have braces placed to straighten their teeth. However, there are some instances where braces alone cannot fully correct the problem. When the upper and lower jaw do not meet up properly, orthognathic (jaw) surgery is sometimes needed. This can occur for many reasons. Sometimes the upper and lower jaws grow at different rates, which can be due to heredity or environmental factors.

A discrepancy between the size of the upper and lower jaw can lead to many problems.  Not being able to chew properly or even speak can be caused by the jaws not coming together the way they should.  This can lead to pain and discomfort.

If a patient is unhappy with their appearance because of the way their upper and lower jaws meet, orthognathic (jaw) surgery may help.

Dr. Fugler can help with these problems by performing orthognathic (jaw) surgery.  He will evaluate you for the necessity of the procedure and develop a treatment plan for your case.

We look forward to answering any questions you may have about this procedure during a consultation appointment.
